NX and Hyper Threading

I Purchased a new Dell workstation recently.

In the past the recommendation was to disable Hyper Threading as it would impact performance.

Is this still true?

Have not seen that recommendation any more, but since you are using an ancient NX release too, you will have to check on your own, if turning HT on will have negative impact on NX 4.

Re: NX and Hyper Threading

Hi Alex,

Like a Stefan, I have not seen that recommendation any more for CAD and CAM.

But for CAE, this still true, as you can see in the NX 9.0 On-line Help in link below.

I hope this help.

I would always recommend to turn it off. I had a customer recently that had just purchased new Dell systems and was getting load time differences compared to their old systems. As a test on the same new Dell, for a very detailed assembly, the load times were: With HyperThreading turned on: 10:43 With HyperThreading turned off: 06:14

Re: NX and Hyper Threading

Thanks for the input.

Basic test of build model and generate CAM operations don't show significant difference with it on or off (NX4)

I also ran the  blocks benchmark originally from  @Stefan_Pendl (I think) TestBlockPerformance.vb

Interesting my NX9 performance now matches the NX4 performance of my 8 year old Dual Xeon X5482 3.20GHz

Old machine

NX v4.0.4.2
Creating 1000 Blocks ...
Elapsed ... 25.323

New Machine

NX v9.0.3.4

Creating 1000 Blocks ...
Elapsed ... 23.571

Re: NX and Hyper Threading

Further to this.

Has anyone used the Dell Precision Optimizer that ships with these workstations?

Any feedback would be appreciated.
