NX10 Multi axis machining - core undercut

I have been struggling to find the right maching method to finish mill the undercut highlighted in red on this part.  It seems to me that the z-level 5-axis method should work best, however it ignores the undercut but gives me a tool motion that looks favorable.

 

The variable contour 5-axis operations provide undesirable tool motions that have me concerend with tool/toolholder clearance issues.  

 

Can anyone provide any insight as to forcing the z-level 5-axis method to machine undercuts?

Hi Mark,

 

There might be better ways to cut the part, but the issue with VARIABLE_CONTOUR operation in the prt you attached is the material side for the drive. in the drive method dialog, Drive Geometry group, hit the "Flip Material" button and note that the axis now points outward from the ring selected as drive. OK the dialog, generate the operation and check the resulting path. if it is not what you are looking for - please detail the issue and I can suggest other options.
