NX7.5 CAM

Hi,

I am using NX7.5 within a TeamCenter environment. TeamCenter version 8.1

I am wondering if the MENCMachining Type is ready to use in v8.1 and what the functions of this sort of Item type are.

Next question:

I have a completed manufacturing part, with programs, operations, tools, geometry, MCS's.

Now I want to use this data for another part with similar geometry. Do I need to use MENCMachining or just templates in NX.

When using templates, how do I need to create this?

I have seen a lot of examples and Tech Tips but nothing is working properly!

Hopefully somebody has experience wit this!

Thanks in advance!

Thomas

We are using MENCMachining since Teamcenter Engineering 2005 SR1, which was released years before Teamcenter Unified 8.1 Smiley Happy

You can just do a simple save-as and replace the target component.

Setting up templates forces you to edit a couple of files, which is not practical for reusing a part only a few times.

Ok!

So i have to save my manufacturing part as a MENCMachining Item? How do I manage this?

And what are you intending with "target component"?

These are my navigator trees:

Can you point out what the target component is?

Thanks!

Technically, you can use regular "item" items for CAM parts (what we've been doing for years), but I believe you lose some capabilities.

Note bulk converting "item" items to "MENCMachining" is a big PITA.  Doesn't work in TC2007, supposed to work in TC10.

You can "Save as" in NX/TC, and specify the resulting item type, but Ithink you have to set something in customer defaults to have this show up as an option on the "Save As" dialog (in drop list, you have "Save as new revision", and "Save as new item", this option adds a "Save as new item type"?)

Which capabilities do you have when you Save As MENCMachining, do you think?

Indeed, I only can Save my part with "Save as new revision" and "Save as new item", I can't specify it with "Save as new item type"!

You know how to manage this?

Thanks in advance!

A MENCMachining item will allow to automatically upload shop documentation and NC code files to Teamcenter when saving the item, for instance.

There should be a customer default in NX in the Teamcenter section, sorry no NX 7.5 anymore, so no image to help with.

In NX7.5 customer defaults:

Teamcenter integration for NX -> General -> "File New" tab

"Check" the option "Allow Save As Different Item Type"

This will add the option in the NX "save as" dialog to "save as" an existing part to not only a new item ID, but also a different item type (and allow selection of the item type)
