Nx12 adaptive milling

Is ther a way to change the cut levels to start at the deepest level then step up to the next intead of from the top down

(in one operation)

When I have wanted to do this a few times... usually cavity milling an exterior surface...

 

Right click on the path, --> toolpath --> edit.... Hit the reverse button.

 

Will now cut from the bottom up.

It's a total reversal, so if you want to climb. the initial path will have to be conventional.

And if you regenerate the path it will go back to top down.

 

So, I usually lock the path (I have lock override off in the customer defaults)

If I want to regenerate the path, I will have to take the time to unlock it first.

Saves me from messing up good proven path.

Should have thought of that ,actually use the ole double reverse for flow cut sometimes

Just thought I would get the ball rolling early on this one

Don't think that way is going to work very well

can't find a wat to change it from cutting from outside toward  inside

when you reverse it it cuts from inside toward outside

also would really have to be creative with engage and retracts

This is the initial phase to allow users to make sure the base function is working properly.

There will be additional functions added to it step-by-step.

VoluMill and iMachining have started with a simple tool path a decade or more ago, so expect to have the system evolve for some years.

In the past CAM operations have been added with all the bells and whistles, nothing worked, no user used it, no problems have been reported and so the operation was only improved by accident.

Now new CAM operations come with the bare minimum of functionality, which works in the majority of situations up to specified limitations. Additional features will be added in phases, so that the enhancement is less likely to destroy the existing functionality.

This is why I am asking these questions now

I realize that I am working with a beta version

Been through a lot of headaches in the 25 yrs Ive used this software

Got to keep pushing though

Remember contour profile, starting out with the bare minimum for swarf milling, afterwards a tilt angle, support for more tools, the ring height, etc. were added, each in a separate phase.

If I remember correctly, in the final stage there will be at least 80% of the functionality offered that VoluMill and iMachining offer. I doubt that the separate feed manager will be a feature, since NX already offers similar functions in a different way.

My bad was refering to what comes up when I log onto 12 It says Its a beta version

O I remember lots of new things that didn't work and the old stuff that still didn't work

Not looking to bad mouth the software

But have been through the mud

Looking forward to the 80%

Hi all,

 

thank you for this question. Adaptive Milling is released in NX12 as a first basic version.

 

NX CAM development works Agile, so we are releasing smaller pieces of functionality which we think will give the user value. The customers don't have to wait years to get a complete functionality anymore. Adaptive Milling is a good example for this.

 

With that being said, we are already working on enhancements for Adaptive Milling. Upcoming new features will be the Bottom Up Cutting and a Custom Spindle Speed for Helical Engange Moves.

 

@robber80 This features should addres your request.
