Other uses for CAM_COMPONENT_TYPE Property - other than File -> New

Hi,

could anyone please tell me the purpose of CAM_COMPONENT_TYPE=Resource and CAM_COMPONENT_TYPE=Workpiece ?

For what are these component properties used?

Best wishes,
Joachim

The NX documentation has some information about it.

You usually set it through the dialog contained in the manufacturing application under Menu => Edit => CAM component Type.

  1. Target
    • the part to machine
  2. Workpiece
    • the blank part
  3. Resource
    • the machine tool
    • fixture components
    • etc.

Have not found any in depth description of the part attribute.

Re: Other uses for CAM_COMPONENT_TYPE Property - other than File -> New

Hi Stefan,

thanks for your reply.

1. Target: Is clear and is used in File -> New for library setup templates.

2. Workpiece: I have heard that before, but when is it used and what should I set this for? Teamcenter? Simulation?

3. Resource: The same as in 2. When is it used and what should I set this for?

Maybe Mark can bring in some light into this.

Best wishes,
Joachim

ER#7867546 is created to get better information into the NX documentation.

If that is of interest to you, request to be added to the ER by GTAC.

It would still be a pleasure to have @MarkRief shedding some light on this Smiley Wink

I am very familiar with "Target". I can ask about the others.

Re: Other uses for CAM_COMPONENT_TYPE Property - other than File -> New

I got some information on the usage in Teamcenter:

The CAM_COMPONENT_TYPE will be mapped to Teamcenter as occurrence type.

Different occurrence type in Teamcenter will be treated differently (different icon, at least).

In CAM managed mode, Target CAM_COMPONENT_TYPE will be swapped when creating setup from a setup template.

When assigning a machine tool to setup as “Resource”, the system will change it to “MachineTool” CAM_COMPONENT_TYPE.

It will be used to make sure that there is only one Machine in one setup.

As far as “Workpiece”, there is no special treatment so far.
