Reusing blank (IPW) from different workpiece

Esteemed Contributor
Esteemed Contributor

It seems that NX 10.0.3 MP14 has changed the way one is allowed to reuse the resulting blank of a previous workpiece group.

It seems to be no longer necessary to follow the rules below:

  1. identical geometry must be used
  2. placement is based on separate components

It seems that it is now possible to select the previous workpiece as the IPW source even if it contains support geometry that is not present in the current workpiece.

The orientation of the IPW is based on the parent MCS instead of the orientation of a component.

Can someone confirm this much appreciated change in behaviour?

Hello Stefan,

which function you are refer too?

ONT, Verify or ISV with CSE?

I am not aware of any specific change in NX10.0.3 in ISV CSE.

Hello Thomas,

it is the regular blank definition inside of a workpiece group, see images below.Assembly StructureAssembly Structure

Hope this clarifies my request.

Hi Stefan,

yes it clarifies, but I do not know changes in that area IPW definition inherit in NX10.0.3.

Hope others knows the details and can help.

Hi Stefan,

The positioning per CSYS was done in NX11.0 (IPW Positioning Type --> Part or CSYS in Blank definition)

In NX10.x we have also relaxed a constraint concerning identical part geometry (As you have mentioned).

It will stay like this, no worries :-)

Glad it helps you.

Thanks,

Oliver

Hi Oliver,

thanks for the clarification that you have removed the restriction that the geometry must be the same.

This will be a big leap forward, when I inform the users of this in our next NX consultation meeting.
