Smooth splines on imported dxf.

I am working with a dxf file created by a program called VectorNow. It converts image files into dxf/dwg format. Once I open the file in NX7.5 the splines are segmented and distorted. Is there a simple way to smooth these splines so the cut geometry is cleaner?

Thanks.

What I've done in the past is create my own splines in a new by tracing the geometry. It goes very fast and gives very good results. You don't need that many points to create a spline curve accurate enough for the type of work described here.

I have also done this in the past. It works well but hoping to learn a new trick to speed things up. Thanks for the reply.

Re: Smooth splines on imported dxf.

Let us know if you figure anything out. I spent a full day once trying to figure this up and ended up going back to making my own splines.

The problem is Vectornow doesn't do a good enough job "simplifying" the splines and smoothing them out.

You got that right. Some come out pretty good, others are a disaster. If any one finds a solution I will let you know.

Re: Smooth splines on imported dxf.

I can't speak for VectorNow as I've never used it, but I've found Inkscape to quite good for image to vector conversions.

I made a video a while back for our tips site that shows how to do it: https://vimeo.com/83654051

Re: Smooth splines on imported dxf.

Tried this program and it is far superior to VectorNow. Very little clean up on file after import. Thanks.
