Solid Tool Assembly display in managed NX CAM (moved)

Hello,

I´d like to display the solid tool assembly in tool path visulization. I tried it with the OOTB Tool shipped with NX but I do not get it to work. The 3D-Solids are not shown.

I also tried to import the Tool-Assembly to Teamcenter but no results.

Is it possible to use the solid tool display in Managed NX without MRL?

If Yes, Is there an overview or documentation how to setup this?

working with NX11.0.1, Teamcenter 10.1

Regards

Andre

Yes it is possible (I'm at TC11.2.x and NX10.0.3.5)

1) The tool has to be library tool (legacy text tool libraries or MRL)

2) For text tool library tools, the LIBRF for the tool is used as the Item ID for the tool geometry in TC
(no need to define the geometry/part in the "Mach\Resource\library\tool\graphics" folder)

E.g. if the LIBRF = "ABC123"

Then the item ID in TC has to be "ABC123"

This is the "assembly" file (with the tool mount & tool tip junctions) and can be an assembly of other parts.

and... in your image.

You may have to select the "Assembly" option in the drop list you show

This is how I expected that and I tried it in the same way than you discriped it before. But the behavior was the same (of course my image was wrong and I have to the select the assembly in the tool-option dropdown).

It didn`t work for me, but now I know why...

I have to reselect the tool out of the library AFTER I stored the Assembly-Tool into the TC-database

(Delete existing tool in the setup > reselect it in library > 3D is shown)

Same behavior native

Now it works, sometimes it so easy...

Thanks to you Ken

Kind regards,

Andre

You may also use "Update Tool from Library" from the ONT context menu of the tool in the tool view. This should be the same like deleting and re-retrieving the tool.

Hello Stefan,

I got a further questions to that topic:

Is it possible to manage the Tool_database.dat, holder_database.dat, in Teamcenter (without MRL).

Thanks,

Andre

As far as I know that is not possible.

You should use the NX_Custom centralized NX configuration for these kind of things.

I think the NX documentation is pretty clear about what can be managed inside of Teamcenter in relation to CAM configuration.
