When a right-hand thread is milled with "Climb milling" the tool will start at the bottom of the hole and cut in upward direction.
At the moment the user has the choice to: RAPID to the start point or set the Approach Feed to a feedrate, which causes a long travel time -especially after tool change.

Efficiently plunge into the hole at a controllable feed rate

Rapid to a safe position above the hole, then feed in at a controllable feed rate to start level

Work around is to cut all threads in conventional direction. This has a negative effect on quality and tooltilfe

Use the Top Offset value from Cutting Parameter > Strategy > Extend Path to switch from RAPID to some type of feed rate the user can specify (like Approach or Step Over or Plunge)

What is the level of productivity gained from such an enhancement?

Consistency in NX approaching methods
Being able to use climb milling direction

Your recent call to the Global Technical Access Center, Incident Report (IR) Number 9200613 opened on 29-JUN-2018, has been researched by our GTAC software engineers. They have determined that this perceived problem is an enhancement to the current software functionality.
This IR was converted into an enhancement request (ER) on 02-JUL-2018 and is now referenced as ER Number 9200613. It is not currently scheduled for implementation.

Work-around

In Non-cutting moves, specify Initial Engage > Helical, Height (a little more than the thread depth).

No the tool plunges into the hole at Engage Feed.
