Threadmilling 2 1/2" NPT Cutter compensation issue

NX version 9.0.1.3

 

I am trying to threadmill a 2 1/2" npt into a 1" thick plate of steel with a Sandvik Coromill 327. 

 

MCS is set to top center of the hole feature. I created the hole feature in NX, and when I create the thread milling operation to machine it everything works fine without cutter compensation enabled.  Here is the list output for the operation:

 I want to be able to control the thread feature at the machine so I enabled Cutcom Location All Passes in non cutting moves and the operation creates an undesirable toolpath.  Here is the list output:

 As you can see the first circular move takes the tool from Z-30. up to Z-2.6073 but then starts threadmilling the correct pitch all the way to Z+30?!  

 

I have engage moves set to helix, I specified cutcom to engage 1mm at 90 degrees, and enabled output contact/tracking data.  I have the cutting parameters set to extend 3mm from top and bottom.  I'm not sure if this is a bug or if I am doing something wrong but it seems to translate z upward the thickness of the part on that first circular move.  Any Ideas?

I see you are using 9.0.1.3. To check if you're problem is a new one or already fixed on a recent version I would like to have a (similar) part file. Would you be able to send me yours?

Make sure to attach the file through the web forum, not the e-mail.

An alternative is to contact GTAC and submit the part file there. GTAC will then be able to check the problem (which release, fixed y/n) and create a PR if needed.

 

When you submit a part file make sure sharing is allowed!

If in doubt, GTAC is the best route to follow.
