With the tool machining data library you specify one single set of parameters to be used with that single tool despite of the part material or the cut method, so it is best used for tools that never need a change of parameters.

The machining data library finds the best match of parameters depending on the tool material, cut method, part material, tool diameter and tool length, so it is best used for tools that need different parameters depending on their usage.

We generally use the machining data library.

The tool machining data library is only used for chamfer mills, thread mills, tapping tools and other tools that have only one set of parameters for all part materials and use-cases.

We have separate tapping tools for brass, steel, etc., so we are good with just one parameter set.

NX first checks for a match in the tool machining data library, on failure it searches for a match in the machining data library, on failure a message will be displayed that no machining data was found.
