Updating tools from library

We have a lot of program that we run only run maybe once a year or even once every couple of years. so before we run them we usualy try to open them up and update tooling and fix any programming mistakes that were caught last time it was ran.

Is there anyway in NX to update all the tooling from the database without opening each individual tool and clicking the "Update tool from Library" button? Some of our programs have more than 100 tools and this can get cumbersome!

Thanks

TJ

Re: Updating tools from library

Hi TJ,

without having NX at hand: Can't you multi select all tools and call the contextual command Object->Update Tool from Library?

Best wishes,
Joachim

Re: Updating tools from library

Can the "upadate tool from library" be journaled?

If so, loop thru all tools with journal & update them.

As @JSchraitle said, Update Tool from Library happily handles multiple and group selections, so you only need to do it once when you open an old part. In the Operation Navigator Tool View, select the top node. For example:

GENERIC_MACHINE > MB3 > Object > Update Tool from Library.

If you do this alot, you can add the command to your ribbon, or record a journal that selects GENERIC_MACHINE and starts the command.

If you are looking for a process that does all the parts in a folder, for example, you can do that with a journal, but you won't get the results reported in a message box, like you do with an open part.

Re: Updating tools from library

Hi,

can we remove the link of the library reference from a tool retrived from the library?

It happen that we retrive a tool from a library and after we change something (remove the radius for example).

What we want is if we make and update after some time the tool not be updated.

Thanks,

Dritan

As I understand it, you want to:

  1. Retrieve a library tool
  2. Edit the tool parameters in the work part
  3. Update tool from library, and the system keeps the edits and does not update the tool.

This would be an enhancement, so please file an ER. The complication is we would need a choice when you edit the tool to keep the library reference or not, and also a way to display to the user if the tool is or is not a library tool.

Ok,
Thanks Mark

Re: Updating tools from library

In my view a library tool is something that doesn't undergo a big change for its entire life.

Library tools that change the radius to zero are no longer the same tool, but a new one.

If you disable the customer default to disallow editing of library tools, the library reference will be removed when you edit the tool.

The tool library is not the carrier in the machine, it is the drawer in the tool assembly department where the assembled tools are stored.
