Hi all,


I'm using 4 axis mill table with Sinumerik 840.
I want to drill 4 holes in my item (please see the attachment).


I am using only one origin (say G54) as local offset fixing for all the 4 holes.
When I pp the cycle, the output is right for the first three holes in Z+ direction, but I have a warning message "WARNING: unable to determine valid rotary positions" for the hole in X+ direction and the coordinates output are not listed.
Any suggestions?

Guessing....

The one hole is SLIGHTLY angled is a direction the 4th axis can't get to.

List the internal toolpath and see if one of the tool axes has a non-zero small value in an "odd" direction

It seems strange, but if I add another origin (say G55 example) that points the Z+ along the hole axis, the operation is ok without warnings.

Check yout 'tool axis' in drilling operation and the way ypu select the holes.

I'd look at the G55 MCS and check out its definition matrix.

I still think the hole is *just slightly* not square to the original MCS.

 

Again, in the internal toolpath, instead of

......,1, 0, 0

for the tool axis, you would see

....,.999999999, 0, .000000003

 

or whatever.

Thanks for the replies...


after many many attempts, I figured out that the problem is my machine's kinematics. In fact if I simulate the tool path with, for example sim03_mill_4ax in the installed machine example with its post-proc, the output is ok in any conditions.


I think that there are some problems in the machine's kinematics configuration that I created...

Solved!

 

I was wrong to setting the spindle as a NC axis and so the machine is 5 axis instead of 4 axis.
