bounding box weight - nx cam

I would like to ask a question wrt blank properties in NX cam module. Basically, if you do not have blank geometry but select one of NX cam standard options (offset from part, bounding box, part outline, etc.) then I do not know how to check stock weight and external dimensions.

Dimensions can be of course calculated by adding offset to part dimension but maybe there is smarter and quicker way to obtain those baisic stock information.

thanks in advance

It will be good to know external dimensions of blank.

Even better will be to know its max and min dimensions to the MCS.

You can get the orientation of the MCS through NXOpen API and you can get the bounding box at a specified orientation with the AskBoundingBoxExact NXOpen API method.

Getting the volume of the part offset is more tricky, since it depends on the complexity of the workpiece, so a regular face offset applied to all body faces may fail.

And this is the boundix box of the part or the blank (whatever it is - autoblock, geometry, part outline, etc...)?

If you want dimensions and weight, instead of using the option in blank geometry, define the bounding box as a solid, and then select it as geometry for blank. We provide this option in CAM Geometry:

This has nothing to do directly with the CAM geometry, it is a generally available NXOpen API method.

The input solid must be selected by yourself or you get it from the workpiece geometry object.

There is no API method to get what you want, but there are API methods that help you collect the information you need to create a solid that you can check for its volume and some such.

So there is no way to get dimensions of cam blank?

There is no quick way, but with a small amount of work, you can get the size of the blank.
