The defogging performance of an automotive exterior lamp is studied by means of FloEFD simulations and physical measurements. A liquid water film is forced to occur on the lens by means of cooling the outer lens by replicating a rain shower. The effects of function activation combinations, as well as different venting strategies, are analyzed in terms of film thickness evolution as well as fogged area fraction over time. The simulation model is validated against physical measurements. Depending on the test to be simulated, it may be possible to accelerate the simulation by means of introducing some simplifying assumptions. Some general aspects of the model are discussed.
