Title: A novel heat transfer model to reduce grid-dependency in ICEs simulations

The presentation proposes an improved thermal wall function for gas-to-wall heat flux estimation in internal combustion engine simulations. The model is developed in the STAR-CD framework.
Such novel formulation of the already available GruMo-UniMORE wall function aims at reducing, if not eliminating, the dependency of the estimated heat fluxes on the near wall grid, thus allowing to use a unique mesh setup to span a wide range of engine speeds and loads.
The predictive capability and the improved behavior of the proposed wall function are demonstrated through its application to both test cases available in literature and currently made SI and CI engines operated at different revving speeds and loads.
The integration of the proposed wall function in a previously developed integrated in-cylinder/CHT modelling framework allows to simultaneously match the global engine thermal survey and the pointwise temperature distribution in the engine components without the burden of time-consuming adjustments in the in-cylinder computational grid.
