Scrap Rates in FactoryFlow


Tim and Andrew, I am having a problem with a Factory CAD calculation. I am
using Activity points in a process and I have set up each activity point to
be related to the time for that process (I am not using general times etc. )
I have in one step a scrap rate of 30%. When I do the flow calculation, the
scrap rate does not change the process point utilizations for any of the
processes except for the one it is set up on. From the information in the
program, the scrap rate should give me an increase in utilization for the
processes before the process scraping the parts and the process that is
creating the defects.

I n the process flow drawing, do you have to show the flow of the scrap to
make this work? In other words, do you have to make a branch process to get
rid of the scrap?

We have been discussing this issue about scrap rates in the development
group and understand what the user from Siemens is trying to do with Factory
Flow. For example, if product A has a assembly B that has a sub-assembly C
that has a part D with a routing (W => X => Y => Z) and activity point "Y"
with a scrap rate, then the number of parts processed at Y only is
increased. John's question is "why doesn't the software increase the number
of parts processed for all the activity points before Y". This in turn leads
to another question about increasing the number of parts to be processed for
the sub-assembly C and assembly B. This gets complicated (very quickly) with
multiple sub-assemblies and even more when their routes also contain
activity points with scrap rates.
One approach to this is to just increase the number of parts to be processed
for the activity points before Y for the part D (i.e. W and X). We are
looking into this and could include it in a version after 8.0. However, if
we have to increase the number of parts for all the routes for the
assemblies above D then this could take longer to implement.
This application of the scrap rates functionality is good feedback as it has
not been used very much in the past and ideas such as these will help in
it's development.
