I'm currently doing a modelling in NX 11.0.2, where various types of cooling holes should be added on a shingle plate. Because these holes have unique shapes, to create the holes on the plate I need to load the template solid bodies of the holes (which give the form of the holes), extract these bodies with wave geometry linker, move the linked bodies to certain positions on the plate (with move object - from CSYS to CSYS feature), then do some unite and subtract processes.
Now my team has this idea of using reuse library to load these holes bodies to the assembly. To add these holes bodies to the library, I've tried some methods but they all didn't work:
1. I loaded the hole bodies in a new model, createdwave geometry linker, and from the bodies I createdreusable object through 'define reusable object' (for the type I select 'Body'). So the object type as shown in the library is now 'Feature/Object Template'. When I tried to insert this from the library and position it on the plate, NX gave an error message which said 'One or more of the selected objects cannot be moved along with its parents because it belongs to a Wave Link Feature'.
2. I loaded the hole bodies in a new model, created wave geometry linker, and I save this extracted body as a .prt-file in the same folder of my created reuse library. Then I created a KRX file from it, and now the object type in the library is 'KE Part'. When I again tried to insert this from the library, I got options for the positioning (by constraints, move, etc.). I chose 'move', from 'move' I could choose 'from CSYS to CSYS', and the positioning actually worked. But as I wanted to unite the hole bodies with the shingle plate, I couldn't do it because I couldn't even select the hole bodies as the tool in unite command.
So, do any of you have any ideas what should I do now? I'm sorry if my description is not clear, I'm afraid I can't insert any pictures, screenshots, or files here because of my company's secrecy policy, but I do hope you can understand the problem. Any kinds of help and suggestion will be much appreciated!
Personally I would keep it simple and not use your Template.
Create a new .prt for each hole type, you can use sketches or non_boolean holes or a mix of both to create the Tool Solids.
Define a Reusable Object for each new .prt and place in your Reuse Folder.
You know that you can drive the Features of the Reusable Object using a spreadsheet?
