Assembly component grouping

Creator

I would like to group some components in the model tree of my assembly. The "pack" command won't work because it is multiple different parts I would like to group. I have tried going Menu/Tools/Assembly Navigator/Component Grouping but then all the commands are grayed out. Any ideas?

It sounds like what you want to do is to create a subassembly.

Create a new empty assembly (subassembly) and add it to your assembly.

In the Assembly Navigator, drag the components you want to be part of the subassembly into it.

This does change the hierarchy of your original assembly.

Understood. I don't want to make a subassembly because of the hierarchy and assembly structure. I would like to just group components based on different applications.

Ciao

Component Group is an Advanced Assembly command.

Does that mean it requires a different license?

I can say that the Sorting is a kind of grouping method.
If you agree, I can suggest some workaround by 'Component Sort method'.
As we know, we can sort component by column value from Assembly navigator.

Please try as below.

1. Selet components to group from Assembly navigator.
2. open Properties. [MB3 > Properties]
3. Create Attributes
(No Category, Title: Group, Type : String, Value : A)
4. Create New Column with Attribute as ''Group"

And then you can sort components by "Group" column.

Hi Steven,

This only works when you have an advanced assembly modeling license Smiley Frustrated
