Datum Features of Size

A datum that is aligned with a dimension line strictly means that the feature of size is the datum and not simply one side of the feature. How do you dynamically associate a datum call out with the dimension line such that no matter where the dimension line is moved, alignment is maintained?

For instance, in the first photo I'm selecting as the terminating object the area near the intersection of the extension and dimension. In the 2nd photo, alignment appears to have been achieved as desired. However, in the 3rd photo the dimension line has been moved and alignment with the datum has been lost. Now the feature edge has become the datum and not width feature of size.Capture1.JPGPicking near the intersection of the dimension and extension lines.Capture2.JPGAlignment appears correct.Capture3.JPGMoving the dimension line, alignment is lost

Hi @Andy_Stevenson,

This works fine in NX11 and beyond.

In NX10, you can try this.

Once you have placed the Datum Feature Symbol, Shift+Select+Drag it and move it at the intersection. Now, when you move the dimension, the Datum Feature Symbol will also move with it and will maintain the alignment.

That was esoteric but thanks. It works.

Another way is to select overahang side of dimension extension line as terminating object and place datum feature symbol.
