Hi,
Any recommendations to design advanced packaging in NX?
I have been asked to help in the design of a new packaging for a product. I am wondering if NX has any module or features to help me in this task.
My idea is to develop a "box" in 3D and then obtain a flat-pattern. I am thinking to use "sheet metal" if there is no other alternative.
Comments would be gratefully received!

I saw an article a while back where they used the sheet metal module to help design packaging.

@cowski1 - interesting article. I don't see the images though, do they display for you?

No, I don't see the images either. Though I do remember them showing up the first time I came across the article. Whoever maintains the website probably made a small change that broke the links.
edit: I sent them a quick email about the missing images.

@fsh27, being a Solution Partner, I assume you have access to Salescenter. If so, please see the packaging design material available under the NX section. If you do not have access to Salescenter, please get in touch with your local Siemens contact and ask for the material. It contains a demo of creating packaging around an existing consumer goods product.

In NX11 or 12 the Bouding box was released.
if you use this to create a box volume, you can then use the sheet metal from solid feature to create a sheet metal part around the box.
Give the sheet metal the thickness of paper or something else.
Adjust also the bend radius to fit.
With flange you can make the flip and glue flip for the box.

There are limitations when using sheet metal to create packaging however for simple designs it can be used. We do have customers that create packaging in this way. If you require custom Label and Artwork Management software, then we have a technology partner
