ER: Add ability to specify relative paths in assembly load options

Gears Esteemed Contributor Gears Esteemed Contributor
Gears Esteemed Contributor

Below find an ER of mine, if you find it useful, feel free to ask GTAC to be added to ER#7331909.

Short Description of desired enhancement: <Problem rather than a solution>

It is not possible to use relative paths for search folders.

What activity in your process is the product not able to currently handle?

I want to specify search folders relative to the location of the assembly part files.

What result are you trying to achieve? (Please provide as many details as possible.)

I want to specify the folder to search for components relative to the folder of the assembly part file location.

Do you currently have a workaround?
    No.

Do you have a proposal for the solution you envision Siemens PLM providing for this capability?

What is the level of productivity gained from such an enhancement?

HIGH, easier way to specify search folders in a structure folder structure.

Other information:

We do have a structure folder structure to save NX part files separated by departments (shop floor, nc programming, design, etc.)

    Sample folder structure:
project
|
+-CAD
|
+-CAM
|
+-CNC

The CAM and CNC departments are using the CAD parts as components through the master-model concept, so the search folder should contain the relative path "..\CAD", but that doesn't work currently.
"As Saved" doesn't work, since I have standard parts that are version specific, so I need search folders.

It's been a while for me, but I would call GTAC and ask them to add me to that ER. It might not be their preferred method, but that is where I'd begin.

@R_Newcomb,

Open a new IR with GTAC (QTAC or phone) and request that your IR is closed against existing ER# 7331909.
