Does anyone know if there is a way to create a stock for a Cable/Harness routing on the fly?
I need to create a simple stock that has a specific solid diameter and a weight per length characteristic.
I can only seem to get a weight per length within a predefined specific stock and I don't even know how to create those.
I was hoping I could use the "Space Reservation" and some how apply a weight per length to that, but I have no clue if that's possible.
You should just be able to add a WEIGHT column to your Circular Space Reservation part table file (circular_space.ptb - see attached). If you need a specific unit (other than lb-foot or kilogram-meter) then you would also have to add WEIGHT_UNITS.
You'll find circular_space.ptb in %UGII_BASE_DIR%\UGROUTE_ELEC\inch\tables, but from my testing it appears that Electrical Routing is reading the same file found in %UGII_BASE_DIR%\UGROUTE_MECH\inch\tables
This will give you a WEIGHT characteristic for the stock:
Feature Attributes for: Space Reservation(1)
ROUTING_LEVEL = 0 (String)
Discipline = Wiring (String)
Specification = None (String)
LENGTH = 10.6030480055208 (Number)
STOCK_PART_ID = OD (String)
DIAMETER = 0.25 (Number)
OD = 0.25 (Number)
PART_NUMBER = Circ_Space_011 (String)
PLibPartType = 0 (Integer)
WEIGHT = 0.1 (Number)
APPLICATION = Routing Electrical (String)
I added these columns...
To all these files...
But even after restarting NX and using this function:
I still only see diameter as an input. What am I missing?
Thank you for your help with this.
Click on the Stock pulldown and choose "Specified Stock". Then select the Specify Stock button to get this dialog:
Having expanded the nodes and selected "Circular Reservation", choose the desired stock from the listing window, hit OK and then assign the stock to the path. You can also right click on the Circular Reservation node on the above dialog and choose "Search Children" to narrow down your stock options, though to see more characteristics in that dialog you would have to change "HIDE" to "SHOW" for your columns in the PTB.
You stated that you added WEIGHT_UNITS as a column. If all units are the same you can define the WEIGHT_UNITS as an applied characteristic - see the example PTB I attached previously.
Link to technical documentation on assigning WEIGHT to a PTB:
There must be something setup incorrectly on my system or the system by IT...
This is what I have when I select Space Reservation from the Tool Tab.
And this is what I get if I do an edit stock on an already routed cable
