Link render with part physical material

Creator

Hello,

I'm new to NX and I'd like to know if it was possible to link the rendering (texture) to the physical material that is applied to a part?

In fact, in my company, we have 500+ materials so we use images with text inside and colors wrapped on the parts to differentiate the materials.

From what I've seen, NX dissociates physical material (found in Tools > Utilities > Material) and the rendering.

Is there a way to link both as we want to be able to see in an assembly, what part has what material (and be sure that the physical material is not different from the one we see in the rendering)?

Or, is it possible to add an image wrapped around the part in a visual report?

Thank you for your help,

Jonathan

Considering you have already assigned the material at the part level (Menu > Tools > Materials > Assign Materials).

In Assembly Navigator, RMB in while space, Columns > Configure..

Add the custom attribute 'Material' and move up so that it will be under the 'Descriptive Part Name' as shown in the image. Material column will show the information if material is assigned to the part.

I am not sure about the rendering of the assigned material.

Hi Ganesh,

Thank you for your anwser.

For the visualization in the assembly navigator, that is perfect.

Now, is there a way to visually see the material on the 3D?

Hereunder you can see a screenshot of what we're using in CATIA.

The texture and physical properties are merged and directly applied on the partbody.

Jonathan, the short answer is not directly like you mentioned, but you can use Visual Reporting to and setup the materail report to color all the object a color and then run the report with or without tags. I have included an image of what I am talking about below.

Thank you for your answer Scott.

I think that this solution is the best one with NX.

Still strange it can be done with TC Vis but not with NX...

Hi Jonathan,

you have accepted the solution of John,

but there isn't a solution.

Assign physical material into NX, doesn't assign render material.

You have to open an ER.

This is what is asked when I switch from SolidWorks 2005 to NX3.

Are passed 12 years, but nothing.

Thank you...

Hello,

It is true. I'll contact my Siemens coordinator.

What we'll probably do is to first check with a check mate rule that render = part material.

How did you tackle the issue?

Jonathan

No solution, when I need to do some rendering for publicity, I use Keyshot, because if I need to set again into NX rendering material to read-only file, I prefer spend time to a serious rendering software.

Thank you...
