Linking PMI dimensions across in-process models

Pioneer

I am creating top-down in-process models using the same method described in this video.

The geometry is linked via WAVE, but is there any way to copy/cascade PMI dimensions/tolerances/notes down the manufacturing process while maintaining associativity?

Hi @AeroEng363,

Did you check 'Wave PMI Linker' command?

With this you can wave link body or topology along with the associated PMI dimensions/annotations etc.

Thank you @GaneshKadole, that seems to be the command I'm looking for.  However, I'm unable to link certain PMI dimensions.  I'm simply not able to select them.  It seems to only be dimensions that are part of a section view, but moving them to a different model view doesn't help.

Also, when I make a change to the PMI dimension in the source part, the associated PMI dimension in the target part seems to go out-of-date.  It turns into gray, dashed lines and the update does not carry over.  The only way I've found to update it is to move it to a different model view.  Is there a better way to update the PMI links?

Thanks

Nice one Ganesh..

Hi AeroEng363,

Have you tried Update all ...when your PMI are shown as a grey/dashed lines? Also does loading the parent and child component FULLY makes any change to this situation?

Best Regards

Kapil

'PMI Wave Linker' does not support the PMI Section/Lightweight Section views, this is the current limitation. May be someone who is testing beta NX12 can confirm if this is enhanced. @BenBroad, your comment please!

Can you post a part/sample part. If I make any changes to the already created PMI's, it gets update without any problem.

Good to know...  I'll have to look for a workaround.

I was working on a different part and the linked PMI seemed to be updated automatically.  Not sure what was going on at first but it seems to be resolved.

Hi @GaneshKadole,

The same is true for NX12.

Has anyone found a way around the section view limitation?

or maybe there is another way to do what I am trying.

I would like to have our design group complete  design an release it. I would like to have a the quality engineering group have a model where they can add / remove PMI to support an inspection plan and balloon the PMI callouts. I was hoping to do this with wave linked PMI but if section PMI doesnt not link that wont work. I could have the quality engineering do a save as but I would prefer that the design model is referenced some how. Do yall have any ideas?

Yes, this has been an issue I've dealt with (but on the drawing side.  Just starting on the modeling/PMI side)

The people who do the ballooning (quality) came along late in the process and typically don't have write access to the engineering/drafting files (which may even have been released in TC by the time they get involved).

Quality almost needs an "overlay" ability with the existing part, so they can do what they need to do, without having write access to the original parts.

Yeah, thats pretty much what I'm trying to set up. Currrently the design parts have already released by the time the Quality Engineers get involved. So like you said we need a way to overlay balloons and some PMI tweaks in a Quality controlled file.

Wavelinking the PMI almost works but it doesn't bring up section view PMI.

I could do a save as of the released design model but I really rather have the BOM relationshio to show what changed if the Quality engineers felt they needed to add PMI for in process checks etc.
