Mirror Over a Circumfrence (Not a Plane)

Hello All,

Is it possible in NX 10 to take a 3D feature (Hearts) and revlove them over a revolved surface or body?

I have attached 2 pictures as a reference. The "3D Heart" pic is what I would like to mirror "Over Revolved Surface (circumfrence)" picture.  Everthing I find will only allow mirroring over a plane.  I thought the transform feature might be able to accomplish this, but it doesn't look like it at this point.

Thank you, Rick

Have you looked at the pattern commands?  A circular pattern might work for you.

Here's a sample NX10 part with a circular "Pattern Face".

Hi Ben,

On you NX file you attached.  Is it now possible to take the "debossed" Heart (Extrude 6) and make it "Embossed"?

The other side of the circufrence.

I really appreciate everyone helps and super-fast responses!

Edit the Extrude, change the direction and switch the Boolean method to Unite.

I get yeah (I wish my heart was that simple! Smiley Happy except for what I am working on is not a simple extrude.  It's a complicated 3D heart.  That's why I am looking to mirro or reflect the 3D heart somehow over the circumfrence?

I don't see how a complicated heart would prevent the circular pattern from working.  Do you get some sort of Alert?  See attached for a more complicated version of what I originally provided.

Hi Ben,

Your extrude 6 is already embossed. So the pattern Face will work.

How would you go about taking a debossed (cut into model) design and making it embossed (extending out from model) from a revolved surface?

Do the features that created the debossed design still exist?  Was it an extrude feature that you can simply reverse the extrude direction and switch the Boolean from Subtract to Unite?

If not (and a lot of this depends on what your working with) you could:

  • Use Composite Curve to extract the edge curves of the deboss feature that lie on the revolved surface
  • Use delete face to remove the debossed faces
  • Divide the revolved surface with the extracted edges using Divide Face
  • Then extrude the divided face.

Note that the extrusion is only in a single direction, use Thicken or Offset Region to maintain normalcy to the revolved surface.

There's probably several ways to accomplish this.
