NX10 Documentation

Experimenter
Experimenter

Hello

I have installed NX10 server and docs on a linux server. This loads properly.

I installed a client on the windows system. Edited ugii_env_ug.dat and added

UGS_LICENSE_BUNDLE=ACD20,ACD21
UGII_UGDOC_BASE=http://server.domain.com:8181

Saved the file.

When I open help from windows startup and browser, it works. When I click on help in the application, I get:

could not find nx online documents
please check the ugii_html_ugdoc or ugii_wv_ugdoc

could not find nx online documents
unknown system error

Not sure if this is what you are looking for. But this is how to get the NX10 online help files to work on a Win machine. No need for environmental variables or anything.

I just installed NX 10 help locally on my computer and it works.

Here are the steps:

Get the latest 64bit Java http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

Get the NX help install files, which you must have.

Install both the Doc Server and NX Documentation

Reboot.

Delete install files.

This works for me with Firefox, Win7, and NX10.

Good luck. Peter

Not what I am looking for but thanks.

The server is fine. The client is my issue. I am installing maintenance pack to see if it fixes it. This is what is happening. I click on Help.

With the variable I get this error.

After clicking that I get:

In the ugii_env_ug.dat, you can see that it states

#########################################################################
#
# ERROR and HELP Variables.
#
# NX Documentation and online help is now based on a web server.
# So UGII_UGDOC_BASE should point to the server that is being used, e.g.
# UGII_UGDOC_BASE=http://localhost:8181
# The rest of the documentation and context sensitive help variables are
# based on this one setting and should not change.
#

# These variables are the HTML pages shown from
# Help->Release Notes and Help->What's New
#
# Only point to the PDF files if the documenation server has not been set

If I do not define the UGII_UGDOC_BASE, I get an error.

When I click on the help icon, firefox loads up NX10 "online" help. When we had to install the NX10 help, the GTAC guys said to install the help files locally and I followed those steps outline above and it worked.

I do have that environment variable of UGII_UGDOC_BASE  = http:\\localhost:8181.

I don't have that other variable.

That means I have to deploy the help files to 400 machines! Doesn't that defeat the purpose of having the document server? How does one contact GTAC?

Re: NX10 Documentation

First, check the syslog to verify what the ENVs are actually set to.

If those look right, please contact GTAC directly and let them look at this.

They are familiar with the issues of the doc server.

You are correct in that you don't have to install the doc's on the same machine that you're running NX 10.0.  In fact, if you don't want to install your docs at all, we here at Siemens PLM Software is now offering online access to the NX docs from OUR servers, sort like 'docs on the cloud', but that's another topic altogether.

However, getting back to your issue.  The problem is that there's a problem in NX 10.0 which has been fixed in NX 10.0.2, which will be released soon (like next week).  In the mean time there is also a fix available in the NX 10.0.1 MP3 package.  However, there is another solution that you can do immediately if you don't or can't download the above patch or you like you're still running NX 10,0.0.

Where you indicated that...

I installed a client on the windows system. Edited ugii_env_ug.dat and added

UGS_LICENSE_BUNDLE=ACD20,ACD21
UGII_UGDOC_BASE=http://server.domain.com:8181

Redefine the path to the server so that there are NO 'dots or periods' in the name of the path.  That's the problem that occured, NX was not able to resolve a path to the documentation server which contains 'dots or periods'.  Note that this is what has been fixed in NX 10.0.2 and in NX 10.0.1 MP3.

As John siad, FQDN (fully qualified domain names) and "dotted decimal" (192.168.1.2) format is not supported until 10.0.1MP3 or 10.0.2

I just migrated to NX10 this morning, I tried to setup a local doc server on my main workstation and have other computers connect to it, but it didnt want to work.

I just set this variable (set UGII_UGDOC_BASE=https://docs.plm.automation.siemens.com)and solved all my doc problems.

We only have 2 seats and the machines are always connected to the interwebs.
