NX9 - Bounding Box

Solution Partner Phenom Solution Partner Phenom

Seen posts here and had customers ask about bounding box functionality in NX.
The answer was to use Journals/NX Open/Grip etc to solve the problem.

NX has a function called Create Box that existed in the Wizards (Mold, Die or Electrode).
Without one of those Wizard licenses, you couldn't use it.

Saw an IR recently (see image below) which says that from NX9.0.3 onwards, you only need a solid modeling license to use the function.

Thought it was pretty neat function so we've made a video to show how to access it and how it works: https://vimeo.com/116116872

This video is currently being processed. Please try again in a few minutes.
(view in My Videos)

Also did some testing and NX9.0.2 can also do the same.
NX10 version of Create Box is better as well.

Thanks for the info on eng-tips. Not sure why I couldnt find the command in command finder. I added the
BUTTON MW_TOOLS_BOX
LABEL Create a Bounding Box
to my personal.tbr and it works nicely.

Is there anything with the bounding box that would put the X,Y,Z dimension attributes into the property of the file. Having the box is nice for show but would be better if it would have these included rather than having to go in and manually having to add more things.

Interesting the expressions that get created.  Perhaps in future some "reference" expressions could get created in addition (with actual block sidie lengths)? (not sure how to do that)

In the meantime. perhaps someone could write a "simple, easy to use" journal?

Check out the eng-tips thread on this topic for a variety of potential solutions for this, including a journal, a couple of KF approaches, and a UDF solution.  :-)

Hi PhoeNX,

This is not working for me, how do I get past the Mold Wizard license?

That function was moved to modeling some time in NX9, are you running the latest release?

It's been quite a few years since I ran NX9, I'm not sure when they moved that command to Modeling

Rob,

I am running NX10, did Siemens not continue to have this in Modeling? It's called Bouding Box in NX12 but in NX10 it's Create Box, it still doesn't work for me.

I'd contact Gtac if it's not working, at the time, NX9 and NX10 we only had the old ADVDES bundles. Create box/Bounding box was moved into a Modeling license

In NX 10 help https://docs.plm.automation.siemens.com/tdoc/nx/10/nx_help/#uid:xid617745

it even lists Modeling

Application

Modeling, Mold Wizard, Progressive Die Wizard
