Part Cleanup Function

Using the part cleanup utility with the Delete All Materials selected...

Does this remove all the materials from the model even if they are assigned or just the materials that are not assigned?

I tried using it and it doesn't appear to remove any materials assigned or not assigned.

Using NX 9

On the Customer Defaults-> Gateway-> Materials/Mass-> Attributes tab there are some settings which control automatic creation of part and object attributes when materials are assigned.

When the materials are deleted from the part with part cleanup, these automatically created locked attributes will remain.  If you do not want them, then you would have to turn off the customer default which controls their creation.

If you have parts which already have these locked attributes and you want to clean them up, then you would need to:
- change the titles used by the Materials module on this same tab
- turn ON Customer Defaults-> Gateway-> User Attributes-> Security-> Attribute Locking via NX Open
- write an API program to unlock and then delete the Material attribute

If you have require further information, you will need to contact GTAC.

I might be wrong, but I believe that "Delete all Materials" refers to visualization materials (materials and textures applied for renderings) rather than physical property materials assigned to solids.

Re: Part Cleanup Function

That would make much more sense than the actual material properties given the other options around that check box.

RonY, given your explanation on how the Material properties get locked are you saying that the Part Cleanup is for the material properties and not the Render Materials?

Thank you both for replying!

It deletes all materials and textures applied to a part.

This only applies to unlocked material attributes.

The locked attributes are applied to files depending on the settings in customer defaults.
