Part family component and assy constraints

NX9 and TC 10.

If I have a part family component, and I replace the component with another family member, the assy constraints should stay associative, correct?  The only change in the family members, is a hole location, same hole, just a different location, yet when we swap, the constraints are blowing up.

I have not dug too deep yet, but my understanding is that they should just keep working.

Based on how you've described the workflow I would have to agree with you, it should work OK.  You might need to take this up with GTAC as it might require looking more closely at your part files.

Was the "maintain relationships" option turned on in the replace component settings?

I wonder if you need assign a name attribute to the face and then constrain to the named face...

I mentioned the "maintain relationships" to the user, and they will check.

I'm hoping to create a test assembly this afternoon, using the same part family.

I just tested NX10 with Tc10 and it worked with a basic assembly without needing to name the faces. With maintain relationships unchecked the constraints were removed. With maintain relationships checked the contraints updated with the replacement component.

In my test, everything worked as expected.

For now, I'm going to chalk this up to an operator error.

Thanks!
