I started using “Arrangements” feature replacing traditional “Explosions” e.g. Punch W-edm block. In cloned designs, Arrangements are useful (vs. Explosions) as after moving punches to their new locations there’s no need or very little work left on the secondary arrangement in the w-block.
Now a question arising! “How do I know if arrangements are present in an assembly?” (Where “Explosions” has a its own dropdown box.) Displaying the column is not effective as it’s an extra step of guessing and there are already too many columns to check!
Is there another affective way of NX prompting instantly of current/available Arrangement of the working assembly part? Subject for an ER?
Right click on the assembly file in the assembly navigator and choose "arrangements". The sub-menu that pops up will list all available arrangements and an "edit" option.
I would like see the system to highlight the availability of Arrangements. i.e. the default and used of the selected/working/displayed assembly than a manual checking process.
Since there is ALWAYS a default Arrangement, any sort of indicator would always indiciate a 'Positive'. And one would expect that if users wanted to see the list of the Arrangement names, you'd still have to take some sort of action. Perhaps we could list the number of Arrangements present so that anything other than (1) would mean that there are some user defined ones present, but that would probably be about all that we would do and still expect users to go to the Assembly Navigator to get more access to the information.
That would be a good starting point John! Indicating Assemblies having more than a "Default" arrangement.
Your recent call to the Global Technical Access Center, Incident Report (IR)Number 7367696 opened on 22-APR-2015, has been researched by our GTACsoftware engineers. They have determined that this issue should be reviewed for possible enhancement to the current software functionality.
This IR was converted into an enhancement request (ER) on 22-APR-2015and is now referenced as ER Number 7367696. It is OPEN for review at this time.
o Short Description:
>>Clearly Indicate Assemblies with Arrangements.
o What activity in your process is UG not able to currently handle?
>> Without a manual checking process, UG doesn’t prompt or make the user aware that arrangements are available in assemblies. User has to go thru some steps to search for information.
o What result are you trying to achieve?
>> Trying to use Arrangements feature, replacing traditional “Explosions”. In Explosions, it has its own pulldown window to indicate the Explosion, which user can place in the Ribbon Bar. But in Arrangements user has to manually check the column or RMB the assembly and check Arrangement status.
Please provide as many details as possible.
o Do you currently have a workaround?
>> No, Just manual checking and verbal communication. (A lot of protest and resistance to Arrangement command)
o Do you have a proposal for the solution you envision UG providing for this
>> If there are more than one (Default) Arrangements, show it in the Assembly Navigator (XYZ). You may replace current (order:….)with more important information like Arrangement(XYZ)! i.e. <Assembly File Name> [XYZ(=arrangement)]
o What is the level of productivity gained from such an enhancement?
>> If used arrangement is listed next to the Assembly filename, it’s much clear, visible and transparent how the main assembly is structured and constructed. Currently it’s a guess work and confusing to understand an assembly with arrangements.
