Requesting Help With Advanced Weight Management For Intertia Export

Hi!

 

I am attempting to use NX's Advanced Weight Management tool in order to extract the intertia properties from a part in order to use within Adam/View to define a part.

 

Adams/View wants to define the part with the MOI about it's center of mass marker (or an external marker):

The following automatic exports show when completing a Advanced Weight Management analysis:

  • Moments of Inertia (Work)
  • Moments of Inertia (Centroidal)
  • Moments of Inertia (Spherical)
  • Products of Inertia (Work)
  • Products of Inertia (Centroidal)
  • Principal Moments of Inertia

 

  1. What is the proper method of extracting the MOI using the Advanced Weight Management tool in NX to satisfy this?
  2. Can someone explain the difference between the MOI definitions with respect to a work part?

Just a heads up. In order to use Weight Management, I recall that you will need the NX Advanced Assemblies license.

When doing a mass analysis in NX, you will get results (as you have shown) such as:

  • Moments of Inertia (Work)
  • Moments of Inertia (Centroidal)

The moments of inertia must be reported with respect to a reference frame. In this case "work" refers to the work coordinate system (not the work part). NX reports the inertia about the centroid of the body and about the work coordinate system.
