Show different manufacturing stages of component in one drawing

Hello,

 

Im relatively new to the NX software and run into the following problem(s):

 

My endgoal is to create a drawing that shows the geometry at all the different manufacturing stages of a component (forging, pre- machining, heat treatment, final machining, and few more). During all these stages the component has a different geometry.

 

Question 1: What is the best method to create one part that includes all the different stages? Should this be done using reference sets or is this perhaps better done using suppress by expression?

 

Question 2: What is the best method to show all these stages within one drawing?

Are you using master model?

 

If so, you could create bodies at each 'step' of the process, using "Extract Geometry, Body, and Fix at current timestamp ON.  Then create a new reference set, that contains only the body at that step, ie reference sets named step-1, step-2, and have the default "model" reference set be your final part.

 

In your drawing, you would add additional instances of the model component, setting each to a different reference set.  You could filter them on the drawing by placing the components on different layers and using layer visible in view, or just use "hide component in view".

 

There are other ways, this is just one.

Hi @WGE ,

there is the @DaveK  suggestion or different of what you are asking, one NX part file for each stage, using for the first choice the promote body feature and then the wave geometry link body as the second.

Same initial concept to @DaveK 

 

create bodies at each 'step' of the process, using "Extract Geometry, Body, and Fix at current timestamp ON.

Since you'll probably want to use this component in a higher level, only add the final body to your MODEL reference set, otherwise you'll have weight issues down the road.

 

Master Model approach:

Place each extracted body on a separate layer

Create a new 'DRAWING' Reference Set and add all extracted bodies to it

Add the component to the drawing part file using the "DRAWING" Reference Set

Ensure the Layer Option of the Component Properties is set to "Original Layer".

In Drafting, use "Layer Visible in View" to show/hide the desired extracted body in each view

 

Non-Master Model:

Place each extracted body on a separate layer

In Drafting, use "Layer Visible in View" to show/hide the desired extracted body in each view

I tried both methods (master and non-master) and they worked out just fine.
