Spreadsheet. "Failed to set Excel running"

Valued Contributor
Valued Contributor

Dear Users and Experts,

I place a new spreadsheet in a drawing of mine and then want to edit it with Excel.

But I get the message only: "Failed to set Excel running".

Does anybody have an idea what is wrong here?

NX Version 12.0.2.9

Microsoft Office 2010

Windows 10

How to connect NX with Excel?

Many thanks for your advices

Hi @Blendy ,

Does your spreadsheet contains complex formulas or validation or it's just blank file?

Try performing Part Cleanup and see if it helps.

Samadhan

Do you have an Excel session running in the background when you try to use the Drafting Spreadsheet?  If you don't open up Task Manager and see if there are any Excel processes running.  If there are, kill them and then attempt to access the Drafting Spreadsheet.

Thank you for your answers.

Maybe I have to add that we just have installed NX 12 a short time ago. On a brand new PC. Maybe we even haven't installed NX12 and Excel correctly.

Our Offices 2010 (including Excel) works, though.

Maybe one has to set some paths or something in NX 12 to enable NX 12 to find the connection to Excel?

I also remember from earier versions (before NX6 ) that is was important in which chronological order NX12 and Excel is installed on the PC. But I forgot what order was correctly. And maybe it works differently these days.

we just put a new table on the drawing with a few rows and columns. Then we use the "Edit using Spreadsheed" command. But we only get the message "Failed to set Excel running".

there are no Excel processes in the background, neither before the "Edit using Spreadsheet" command nor after that.

Hi @Blendy,

With reference to NX compatibility with Spreadsheet, MS Excel 2010 (32–bit) is supported for NX12 on Windows 10 platform.

Do you have any old version of office/excel installed on same system?

Computer is brand new, Office 2010 and NX12 installed. No older Office versions. Smiley Happy

Hello @Blendy,

As @GaneshKadole has mentioned... Office 32-bit is supported, 64-bit is not!

As you sure you have the 32-bit version installed?

Kind regards,

Hi @Blendy

Please create a new part file, using the Blank template on the File > New dialog, and repeat your steps.  Let us know the result.  Do you get the same error if you select "Tools > Spreadsheet" and if you repeat the steps in the Modeling Application?

Thanks, Ben
