create an unwrapped section view?

Experimenter
Experimenter

I've got a cylindrical part that I'd like to "split" and then "unwrap" in a section view, similar to the attached files.  The only difference is that I want to view the ID of the part and not the OD.

I've tried just about everything I can think of, but nothing seems to be working.

I think you can create an approximate something like it.

circular-section.jpg

1. start (Activate) a sketch in the view
2. sketch a circle (I converted it to reference)
3. Create a Section line by picking points along the circle.
4. Create a Section View using the existing section line.

This is not truly a circular section, but uses line segments following the circle.

After talking to the folks that provide our support I cannot get a view like I'm looking for with NX currently, but a ticket is in to incorporate at some point in the future.

Adding something to @MarkLawry 's reply, you can use polygone with high number of sides as section line too.

I have discussed this type of section view where the "cutline" is an arc instead of a line with a few ship-propeller manufacturers.
They have traditionally used what they called "cylindrical sections" to define the shape of the propeller blades on their drawings.
- I think that it was a practical way of measuring the blade shape using manual measuring techniques.
now , in full 3D with 5 axis machining and measuring machines , the need should ...
