I have a body and a component

The component is in front of the body

I want to select the component but the cursor prefers select the body instead

Use the command finder and search for "selection priority"; you can set it to prefer components or bodies or...

or just stop moving the cursor (mouse) and wait for the quick-pick options dialog to appear, and pick the object you want

You can also add Selection Priority to the Selection Toolbar.  Note also the hot-keys in the Selection Priority drop down.
