Extrude Enhancements in NX 11.0.1

When using Extrude now in NX 11.0.1, you will notice a number of improvements that make your experience better and give you more options in your design workflow. We will take a look at what these enhancements are and how they help you today.

Various Limits options

Starting in NX 11.0.1, you have more options when extruding geometry. While previously you were limited to Value and Symmetric Start and End options when extruding a 2D open profile, a 3D closed profile, or a 3D open profile, that is no longer the case today. Previously, all Limits options were only available to you when extruding a 2D closed profile. Now, these aforementioned limitations have been lifted.

As an example, let us compare NX 11 vs. NX 11.0.1 in terms of available End Limit options when extruding a 3D closed profile to some bounding objects.

Fig. A. In NX11, note the available options in the End Limits. Only Value and Symmetric Value are possible.Fig. A. In NX11, note the available options in the End Limits. Only Value and Symmetric Value are possible.

Fig. B. In NX11.0.1, note the available options in the End Limits. In addition to Value and Symmetric Value, Until Next, Until Selected, Until Extended, and Through All are now possible.Fig. B. In NX11.0.1, note the available options in the End Limits. In addition to Value and Symmetric Value, Until Next, Until Selected, Until Extended, and Through All are now possible.

What this means for you is that you now have more options in what you are able to design when extruding geometry.

Direction Vector Behavior

When the Extrude command was launched prior to NX 11.0.1, depending on the section selected, some vector types would either be retained or changed to a different type, despite the fact that "last vector type used" is initially shown. Let's look at what exactly this would mean for you.

The following steps illustrate the behavior (described above) that you would encounter when

  1. Start Extrude command and create an extrude feature extruding a section with each of the vector types listed in the first column of Table C.
  2. Start Extrude command again and note the vector type initially shown in the Specify Vector (per dialog memory).
  3. Select a Section (various kinds listed in the top row of Table C) and note how the vector type is either retained or changed to another type.

In NX 11.0.1, the Specify Vector option now remains at the specified type (e.g., Two Points, Curve/Axis Vector, On Curve Vector, Face/Plane Normal, etc.) regardless of section selected, and only changes when the Extrude dialog box is reset or when you explicitly change it to another type.

This saves you from having to go back and specify the type again after
