A new NX application ‘NX Mechatronics Concept Designer (MCD) Player’ is released in NX12.0.2. It is a view-only player that allows user to load and play simulation for model created in ‘NX Mechatronics Concept Designer‘. In addition to playing the simulation the signal mapping capability is available to create and edit signal mapping to external Programmable Logic Controller as well as to SIMATIC S7-PLCSIM Advanced, the virtual controller for SIMATIC S7-1500 controller family of Siemens. This enables automation engineers to use the player with existing MCD models for virtual commissioning.

‘NX Mechatronics Concept Designer (MCD) Player’ complements the offering around ‘NX Mechatronics Concept Designer (MCD)’ with main focus on virtual commissioning and on supporting marketing/Presales activities. ‘NX Mechatronics Concept Designer (MCD)’ is an optional module integrated to core CAD of ‘NX’ which provides a unique offering for mechanical, electrical and automation engineers to collaborate by seamlessly integrated engineering workflows starting with conceptual design of machines, collaborative multidisciplinary detailed design, throughout virtual commissioning and lets the user experience the unique PL connection from Digital World to integration with Factory Automation on the shop floor.

Hi, MCD Player is separated aplication (something like Viewer, MCD, Layout) what is launched by ugraf.exe with parameter or it is standard aplication in NX? I instaled NX12.0.2 and I am not able to find it.

Hi,

either start MCD player with start parameter: ugraf.exe -mechatronicsplayer

or you can also download the standalone application “NX MCD Player” from GTAC.

Where do I find the standalone player in GTAC ? I can't find any download file. I've already installed NX 12.0.2

The standalone NX MCD player can be find in the GTAC Download area.

https://download.industrysoftware.automation.siemens.com/#download

(NOTE: for customers and some other users it might NOT appear at the GTAC Download as you don't have a valid license for this and as such isn't listed/shown)

Scroll on the left side until the "M" and then you should see it like in below picture.

Hello,

I'm currently making a thesis about virtual commissioning. I have a physical model with 4 conveyors, 2 pushers, 2 operations and several sensors. This model is connected with an real S7-1500 PLC so that a product (in this case a black cylinder) will make it's way to the end of last conveyor. A picture of this setup is shown below.

I made a digital twin from this setup in Siemens NX 12 Mechatronics Concept Designer, an example of this shown in figure below.

I used PLCSIM Advanced in the external signal configuration to connect de signals from the virtual model to the virtual PLC (with the TIA Portal program) and that works perfectly.

The purpose of this thesis is to let the virtual and physical model run parallel to each other.

Like you said there is also an option to connect with a real S7-1500 PLC instead of a virtual PLC.

I tried this with an OPC server and this works but my first thoughts were that a OPC server will give some delay because it is an parent layer.

Siemens NX 12 is provided with other options for external signal configuration such as:

  • TCP
  • UDP
  • Profinet
  • SHM
  • Matlap

I've tried it several times with a profinet connection or a TCP connection but without success.

Is there any possibility that there is an manual for those types of connection?

Or could someone tell me how to make them?

Thanks in advance,

Michaël

Michaël,

you can find additional documentation in the install directory of NX/MCD.

Please check the following locations:

NX_INSTALL_DIR\mechatronics\RuntimeInterface\MCDCommunicationAPIGuide.zip

Starting with NX1847 you also get additional documentation here:

NX_INSTALL_DIR\mechatronics\virtualcommissioning_examples

@JochenMerhof,

thanks for the reply.

I'll look to those files.

Hopefully I'm able to solve the problem.
