Touch screen CAD is one of the most exciting changes to this industry if you ask me. I don’t know about you, but my greatest “ah ha!” moments almost always strike when I’m away from the office, so the flexibility of being able to work on my tablet is a huge a plus. (Also, who doesn’t secretly dream of performing their job from a remote tropical island? The mobility of CAD on a tablet makes that vision just slightly more realistic.)
Touch screen CAD does require a unique interface though if it’s to be successful. Even the smallest of fingers can struggle to accurately press tiny commands, so that’s why we introduced new roles concepts in NX 10.
In this NX Quick Tips video, Mike Brown walks us through the various presentation roles, each customized for different touch displays to improve your workflow no matter the device you’re using. As Mike puts it, you can move seamlessly between different display options.
In the video, you’ll see the following roles:
Touch Panel role:
Moves ribbon to bottom of screen for easier interaction
Larger gallery button
Scrollable ribbon bar
Easier and less strenuous work on a large touch panel display
Touch Tablet role:
Moves slim ribbon to top of screen
Swipe to scroll through various commands
Icons condensed to single line
Still able to launch full commands easily
Check out the video to see these roles in action!
