I have GRIP code that queries the name of a selected entity:
IDENT/ CUE, SCOPE, ASSY, SEL_OBJ, CURSOR, PT_POS, RET_CODE
If the entity is not named, I want the logic to fall back to checking whether the entity is a member of a UDF, and if so, querying the name of that UDF.
IF/NAM(1)==&NULSTR,[...] $$ insert code here to look for a UDF containing SEL_OBJ
I can't find any GRIP functions for working with UDFs. The silver bullet for me would be a function that takes an object id and returns the id of the UDF containing it.
Is what I'm trying to do impossible in GRIP?

Almost certainly, it is, I'm afraid.
I couldn't find any mention of UDF functions in the GRIP docs, either.
And GRIP pre-dates UDFs by a decade or two, so the ommision
is not surprising.
