How to localize the node labels of a custom tree widget

I have created a custom tree widget using the block UI styler.

I hoped that using the English node names of standard NX objects would automatically translate them, but that is not the case.

Is there any API method to get the translated text of a string?

Thanks in advance for any pointers.

Below find the dialog of a German NX session partly translated.
