How to set up the license checkout timeout on license server?

Pioneer
Pioneer

We are trying to release license from a user after user checked out the license and idle for a specific time period. SPLM common licensing manager and specifically the ugslmd vendor daemon are unable to support TIMEOUT/TIMEOUTALL keywords available for the flexlm license manager.

So we Need to set TIMEOUT/TIMEOUTALL options in the flexlm options file.

Any possible ways to do ?

Please help

Thank you very much

I don't think you can have the server auto-timeout & release a license.

However you can manually release a license - see Solutions database article 002-7008715

Hello Ken,

Thanks for sharing the information.

Is there any way to include the same command lines in the flexlm option file?

It would be more helpful for us to manage the licenses in an appropriate manner.

The vendor daemon of Siemens has the timeout property disabled, so you can't do anything to get this working.

You can file an enhancement request at GTAC to have timeout enabled for the Siemens license vendor daemon.

Note that the NX client periodically communicates with the license server.

One strategy to free licenses with other Flex served products is to stop the license server service, then restart it.

For NX, this won't work, as when the server comes back up the NX client will "re-check out" the licenses it currently has.

You could semi-automate this with .BAT files (or other scripting languages), but it will still be a manual process

Hello Stefan,

Thanks for your suggestions,

This has been communicated to GTAC already, but they converted as an ER.

However they did not give any timeline for the ER, hence I raised the question in this Forum.

Hello Ken,

Thanks for the information,

We tried to semi-automate the process as per your suggestion, still, it does not meet our requirement.

Anyway I have logged an ER to GTAC, hope they can resolve ASAP
