Multiple Server Configuration

Pioneer

Hello,

We are trying to set up the multiple server configurations for NX and TC. For NX we use the global server and for TC we want to use the local server. And both the servers are located in different regions.

Ultimately NX has to be integrated to TC for the user community.

Is there any possibility to do this kind of configuration? if yes, could you please explain

Thank you very much

Best Regards,

Praveen

What do you mean by "server"?

- License server?

- pool server?

- file server(s)?

- NX customizations (e.g. ENV variables, customer defaults, etc.)?

Hello Ken,

It refers to License server precisely.
We have two different license server located at different geographic locations.

Is there any way to integrate both?

Praveen

You now have two separate sold-tos, so you need to ask your Siemens representative to merge both into one, then you are able to use one single license server for all sites.

Historically, this has been done by setting the license server ENV variable to point to both servers, using "port@host;port@host".

E.g.

SPLM_LICENSE_SERVER=28000@server1;28000@server2

If you have older versions of software, you might need to set UGS_LICENSE_SERVER (or for ancient versions, UGII_LICENSE_FILE)

I'm not sure if this has been added to the NX licensing tool (or not)

And you need to talk to your sales rep to make sure you can do this (depends on how geographically spread out you are)  I believe "normal" floating is "in country" (but I may be wrong on that), you (typically) have to pay more to float globally. And then there's Brazil...

You really need to talk to your sales rep / VAR about this aspect...

As Ken mentions within a single country it should be no problem, within nearly the same time zone you have to pay a bit more than for a single country, global license usage costs big money (about three times of the regular licensing) and you should stay away from merging the licenses.

Hello @Stefan_Pendl,

Thanks for your suggestion.

We need to make sure about reducing the cost for global license as much as possible.

We would consult our Sales Rep for the further help.

Best Regards,

Praveen

By the way, what I talked about is covered in the License server manual:

https://support.industrysoftware.automation.siemens.com/docs/common_license/SPLMLicensing_user_guide...

Look for the "Setup Multiple Server" configuration
