Part Number Callout Number

Is there a way in a journal to grab the component callout numbers in an assembly with a parts list and drive them down and enter them into their part as an attribite or expression

The callout number is dynamic and is not an attribute of the part file, but one for the position in the assembly.

It is bad practice to have the callout number as part attribute, since it will never be the same if the part is reused in a different assembly.

That's why I was hoping to run a journal for each design to drive that number down each time. We manually enter the detail number on each part print, which as you can imagine, there is room for error.

Generally this can be done, but I doubt there is an example.

You may search the GTAC solution center for a sample code.

I found something but don't know how to use it, its an Open C API program.

Can I run that on NX9 without any special licenses?

Thanks

You will have to compile the NXOpen C source code into a DLL for your platform.

You need a NXOpen C authoring license to be able to run the DLL.

OK, thanks, I don't have that license, back to the journal method.

Didn't come up with anything on GTAC solution center search.

Have you tried recording a journal doing the task manually to get an outline of the methods involved?

The code generated needs to be generalized afterwards, but you will get a clue on how to start.

I tried recording a journal but the copy of the callout was not a selectable item

I think I know how to step through the components after studying some other code but I have no Idea how to select each callout from the component, can anyone point me in the right direction---very new to this...

Thanks
