Sharing a personal "role"

We use the NXcustom setup, so all of our roles are on a server.  Since I am the most experienced NX user, it was decided that for a base commonality, everyone would start out with my role, and then adjust their personal role from there.

My question, how can I make my role in the ...CustomerDefaults\TC\Site\startup\roles tied to the role in ...CustomerDefaults\TC\Users\dkieffer\roles ?  As it is now, if I adjust my personal role, I have to remember to copy it over to the SITE location.  Is this possible?  I've tried using a standard shortcut, but no luck.

Thanks,

Dave

Hi,

please try to define environment variable:

UGII_DEFAULT_ROLE=...NAME.mtx

That works for the first time someone launches NX, but if someone wants to change later, and then come back to my role, they would have to repick it from the list of system roles.

I'd just like to have my presonal role automatically updated on the system list, if possible.

Copy your role file over to the folder "startup\roles" in one of the folders pointed to by the variables UGII_SITE_DIR, UGII_GROUP_DIR or UGII_USER_DIR.

You can add your custom category too by specifying it in the role.mtx XML file, see the OOTB role files for the correct syntax.

Has anyone tried a symbolic link from their USER folder role, in to the SITE roles folder?

The problem with a symbolic link is that there might be access permission issues.

I would copy the file over to the site folder, takes just a second.

Or write a small script that would copy the file to the proper location and have the script run automatically when your computer starts up. That way you don't even have to remember to copy it over.

Why would you want to permanently update a role at site level?

Sounds like Dave wants to keep it updated automatically. Copying it everyday might be overkill, but should catch any updates made.

In case it changed!

Other options:

- add a menuscript "post" command to the "Save Role" action that runs a journal (or whatever) that asks if you want it copied

- There's a slew of file replication/synchronization tools that could automatically run & only copy if it chaged or is different or ...
