turn off disable measurement feature

Hello,

I'm using NX 9.0.3.4. Each time I measure something in a design, a measuement feature is added to the feature tree. So I end up with frequently cleaning up the feature tree from all these useless measurement features. Is there a way to stop NX from creating measurement features?

Kind regards, Edwin

I am not sure if this works in NX9, it does work in NX10.

You can make a favorite which isn't associative. In the dialog options: choose "show collapsed groups", in associative measure and checking: toggle off associative. Save this as a favorite which you can use instead of the default simple measurement. . You can do this for all simple measurement options.

I not only dislike seeing it. I do not want it to be there. It is byond me why anybody would like to see a simple measurement popping up in the feature tree. So I want it to be completely switched off. And most likely such can be done in NX...the trick is to find where the setting is hidden

In the measure distance command, expand the "associative measure and checking" and turn off the "associative" option; take a measurement (anything) and press the OK button. Assuming that you have "dialog memory" enabled (the default), it will remember your preference the next time you use the command.

The associative option is only remembered with the normal measurement commands. It won't be stored for the simple measurement commands.

So....what it boiles down to is that you can switch this 'feature create' mode off for the high level measure command. But for the simple measure commands this disabling is impossible, as it will switch itself on uncontrollably. Good programming Siemens!

Have you already checked the customer defaults?

I would search for measure or associative.

Hi Stefan,

Unfortunately, nothing found there...

Simple measurement simply always turns on associative. So either turn off associative each time it is used, or remove the feature after measurement is done. Or end the command with 'cancel' instead of 'ok'....but there is no way to change the default

there's enough IRs already logged for this one (see below), but there is an ER to attach to (1947098):

  • Symptom
  • ---------------
The 'simple measurement' commands (Simple Distance/Diameter/Angle/Length)
create an unwanted 'measurement' feature in the Part Navigator by default.
Unchecking the 'Associative Measure and Checking - Associative' option in the
command dialog is not remembered between each use of the 'simple' measurement
    command.

(Note: This is the as-designed behavior for the 'simple measurement' commands.
They have no dialog memory to ensure they have a simple and consistent
behaviour each time they are used.)
  • Hardware/Software Configuration
  • Family: NX
    Application: DESIGN
    Function: INFO_ANALYSIS
    Subfunction: MEASURE_DIST
    Release: V8.5 and later releases
  • Solution
  • A workaround to the issue is to select 'Cancel' on the 'Simple Distance'
dialog (rather than 'OK' or 'Apply') to prevent the distance measurement from
being created in the Part Navigator.

An alternative approach is to create a ‘Favorite’ of the ‘Simple Distance’
command, with the ‘Associative’ option deselected. This can be added to the
ribbon bar to replace the out-of-the-box command.

    The procedure to do this is outlined below;

    1. Start NX and select the ‘Analysis’ tab to display the ribbon bar.

    2. Select the ‘Simple Distance’ command and then the ‘Dialog Options’ menu (the
cog in the top left-hand corner of the command dialog), select ‘Show Collapsed
    Groups’.

    3. Expand the ‘Associative Measure and Checking’ group and uncheck the
    ‘Associative’ option.

    4. Collapse the ‘Associative Measure and Checking’ group and select ‘Hide
Collapsed Groups’ from the ‘Dialog Options’ menu.

    5. Again select ‘Dialog Options’ and choose ‘Save Favorite As...’

    6. Enter a name for the new command, for example ‘New Simple Distance’, select
‘OK’. ‘Cancel’ the measure command dialog.

    7. Select the ‘Simple Distance’ command icon with the right-hand mouse button
    and choose ‘Customize’.

    8. On the ‘Commands’ tab, select ‘New Item’ from the ‘Categories’ list and then
select ‘New User Command’ from the ‘Items’ list. Drag and drop the ‘New User
Command’ option next to ‘Simple Distance’ command on the ribbon bar.
(The ‘Customize’ dialog should remain open.)

    9. Select the ‘User Command’ icon on the ribbon bar with the right-hand mouse
button and choose ‘Edit Action’. Select ‘Favorite’ from the ‘Type’ pull-down
and select ‘New Simple Distance’ from the ‘Favorite’ list. Select ‘OK’.

    10. Select the ‘Simple Distance’ command with the right-hand mouse button and
    choose ‘Copy Button Icon’.

    11. Select the ‘New Simple Distance’ icon with the right-hand mouse button and
    choose ‘Paste Button Icon’;

    12. Select the ‘Simple Distance’ command with the right-hand mouse button and
choose ‘Delete’. ‘Close’ the ‘Customize ‘ dialog.

    13. Use the ‘New Simple Distance’ icon to measure without creating a
measurement feature in the Part Navigator

Repeat the process above to create ‘favorites’ for the other ‘simple measure’
    commands, such as ‘Simple Angle’.
These user interface changes are stored for use in subsequent NX sessions.

    For further information please refer to the NX documentation articles entitled;
‘Save a command dialog box layout as a favorite’
‘Add a favorite command to the Ribbon bar’

  • Note: There is an enhancement request (ER 1947098) to add a customer default to
control the setting on the 'Associative' option within the 'simple
    measurement' commands.
