Apple's new iPad

Early adopters (gotta love that label)... will buy the iPad right away. I think I have a line outside my office to buy my cast off gadgets... but the iPad will not be one of them.
I pre-ordered an iPad during the first 5 minutes of the Apple store offering. I'm on my third case, and still looking for that perfect cover (Cole Haan, black, smooth).
I sold my Kindle (with the perfect case)... the iPad makes the Kindle look like an antique!
I'm still waiting for the following apps:
Mint
Slingplayer
Sparkpeople
Tivo
NOTE: These are all available in an iPhone version, I want the iPad rendition!
Favorite apps:
Mail (just native mail; sweeeet)
StockWatch (just as good as the native stock that runs on iPhone/iPod Touch)
Weatherbug
Reeder (yup, reeder)
MyTown (drop me a line; I've got stuff to sell)
We Rule (don't judge... hehe)
Browser (great replacement for Safari)
Roboform (waiting for Browser integration)
1Password (Roboform or 1Password, whichever gets integrated first wins)
Voice recorder
Pages
Numbers
Netflix (very nice)
SlingPlayer
Kindle
PC2ME+ (who needs a laptop for meetings when you can have your entire DESKTOP?)
Skype
Todo
Evernote
ABC Player
GoodReader
PrintCentral
HP12C (very nice calculator even in double mode)
Dragon Dictation (wow)
E*Trade HD (I keep the old E*Trade iPhone app because it's better, but the updated iPad app is coming out soon I hope)
FlightTrack
IMDB (another wow)
Expensify (if I traveled a lot, I think this one would quickly become my best friend)
Speed Test (you use it via a browser; the app works just as well)
SparkPeople (but I REALLY want the larger iPad version)
iSSH (sometimes, you just need a shell window to your server)
Pandora
NPR (very nice app)
digg
Deliveries
---

FlightCtrl HD
Myst (in all it's glory)
iFish Pond (my Dad would be horrified)
PinBall HD (eye candy)
Fieldrunners (you will spend countless hours on this one; I warned you)
ArtPuzzle HD
Plants vs Zombies (don't let the name fool you, this one will keep you entertained for hours... and hours)
Shaghai (gotta play this at least once per day; I fool myself into thinking this one improves my memory...)
---

Sun Clock (reproduction of King Louis the 15th's Sun Clock; yup that's gold...)
Beautiful World (for those who can't afford the plane ticket)
Sand Garden (very Zen)
BeautifulPlanet
Timepieces
The Elements
World Clock
Weather HD
Star Walk
Zippo Lighter
Dan Vinci HD
Art Authority
ColorSplash (great fun!)
Needless to say, the iPad is many things to many people...

Just got my iPad last week. It will be a game changer no doubt about it.
BTW, I just got an email from PLM World announcing an app for smart phones
and for the iPod/iPad which will have the agenda (with instant updates) for
the upcoming Siemens PLM Connection to be held in Dallas next week. As soon
as I find out how to load it, I'll let you know what it looks like it's
going to offer us.

OK, I just went to iTunes where you can download this free app. While it
was obviously designed for the smaller screen of a smart phone it still
works fine on my iPad. In addition to the agenda (which synopsizes of each
event), there's also a list of all the presenters with their bio's and the
sessions which they will be presenting in, so you can search for a session
based on the speaker (you can also review the sessions in chronological
order or by product focus). But what I think many people will appreciate
most is that they also included the 'maps' (floorplans) of the venues where
the various sessions will be held, including the layout of the vendor show
indicating where the partners booths will be in the hall.
If you didn't get the PLM World email, but you'd still like to download the
app, go to:

Re: Apple's new iPad

I don't understand why you guys are so into the iPAD. For my dad, it might be good, but me personally, would not appreciate not being able to "hack" away at it.
I am not a big fan of Apple's way of making these things. I think they make their users dumber than they actually are. Why limit everything? Why not have the whole system open to whatever the user wants to do?
I've had iPods and iPhones, ofcourse, but Android has won me over. Being able to whatever i want with my phone, rocks.

Just remember, that which can be 'hacked' will be 'hacked' (apologies to E.
Murphy, RIP).
Think about that the next time you find your PC frozen due to some virus
written by a 14 year old in Belarus.

Sometimes elegance is a virtue unto itself. Another example of what I mean
is next time you see an Apple store somewhere, look around and you may also
find a 'Bang & Olufsen' store near by. Check out what what they sell and
how you interface with their products.

Re: Apple's new iPad

I think that NX on iPad is not practical, TcVis or similar on iPad would be nice.
A viewer on a portable device is surly one thing that will be used by many people.

This was actually my first thought when I saw that PLM World had an app for the Conference.
