Hello guys,

Which programming languages are smiliar to SimTalk ? I was wondering, if it is able to use programming knowledge learnt in Plant Simulation to other programing SW.

Generally, I would say that any knowledge of imperative programming languages (and probably most languages you know are imperative ones) is helpful to a certain degree, say, Ada, C, C++, Java, C#, Pascal, Basic, JavaScript etc.

 

Regarding the actual syntax we use, SimTalk tends to lean towards languages that prefer named structures (begin ... end) over symbolic structures ({ ... }), such as Ada, Pascal or Basic from the list above.

 

Regarding the behavior, SimTalk is mostly an interpreted language (and not a mainly compiled one), similar to JavaScript, for instance.

 

Then, SimTalk is object-oriented, like e.g. C++ or Java.

 

In summary, one could say that SimTalk is meant to be a well-balanced blend of different concepts of which we thought they fit best in the Plant Simulation environment.
