All manufacturing industries need to address similar design concerns. Their customers want smart products, tailored to their personal needs, preferences and habits. And at the same time, they continue facing the ever increasing demand for energy efficiency, and the traditional pressure on cost and time-to-market. Digitalization of the enterprise allows companies to move at the speed of Moore's law!

 

Engineering organizations will need to change and adopt a digital twin strategy to enable their resective companies to be more competitive. This is more than using models and simulation tools to evaluate the product's performance. Engineering must digitize processes and data, leverage digital data from simulation, test and the field (warranty, customer usage, the internet of things, etc) and collaborate in an environment where data and models are managed and reused. A managed environment puts valuable context to the data and captures the knowledge and best practices.

 

Finally, organizations that link engineering data to customer usage and warranty data can explore and discover latent value in the data and truely evaluate their engineering maturity all the way to the customer; using big data anlytics and machine learning to impact the next program.
