About this Newsgroup

N/A

Madam/Sir Administrator,
A humble suggestion. This newsgroup uses a bulletin board style that was designed
for the old MS-DOS. The major drawback is that it hasn't got a Search Function.
If I want to search for a discussion for a particular functionality in 2D Drafting,
there is no facility here for me to do so. I think the purpose of this newsgroup
will be better served if you were to migrate to a more modern format. Here are two
that I think will work fine;
http://www.forum5.com/
http://www.editboard.com/
It is free and it shouldn't be too difficult to link it to your site. I don't know
if it will support news readers (Outlook Express, etc.) but folks, get real. We
have been on Windows based OS since 1995. What is opening another window? Won't
cost you an arm and a leg.

This newsgroup does support readers such as Outlook Express. I believe this
is how most are using it. If you are using the web based interface, there is
a Search Group button at the top. If you are using Outlook Express, use
Find.

Thanks Ricky,
I suppose I could use the Find function in Outlook Express but I still think
this newsgroup is missing out a lot on the feature rich PHPBB based forum.
One of the advantage is the ability to host sub-forums where users may
browse in more specific areas. For example, instead of wading through the
countless titles, I could just look in a Dimensioning and Annotation
sub-forum, etc. On top of that, you get notified if someone respond to your
posting. No need to make a point to check the list now and then. The
possibilities with the PHPBB based forum is limitless. One sub-forum that I
would like to see is a portal for users of SE software to outsource SE work.
A place where Drafters, Engineers and Clients can post about SE work.
Understandably, when you have such a forum, communications will switch to
back channel. One of the disadvantages of using Outlook Express is that
instead of clicking on Reply to Sender you could by mistake click on Reply
to Group. I have seen this many times before and what results is some very
embarrassing situations. In a PHPBB based forum, every user gets a Private
Message Box. It is very secure and there is no chance of committing such
mistake. I am sure those who have used PHPBB style forums can share with you
about other advantages. These are just some of the things that comes to
mind.
Best regards,

This is a follow up to my previous post. I note that there are a lot of
discussion about downloading and installation problems. Looks like this
group could really use a sub-forum for this issue alone. For more
information of what phpBB can do for progressive newsgroups, goto:
